Black Tiger History

At the age of six, in 1979, young Nasim journeyed into an adventure that will change not only his life, but the lives of many others to come! He first stepped foot into the dojang of Rhee Taekwondo – Punchbowl, accompanied by a relative and simply fell in love with the art.

A year later, the school was relocated further away from Nasim’s local neighborhood to Summer Hill, which to him, only added value to his training, and thus teamed up with two other friends to catch the bus, then the train and back three nights a week without miss!

In 1986, young Nasim was honored by receiving his Black Belt through Rhee Taekwondo, the first chapter to his Martial Arts career successfully accomplished…and so he ventured to conquer all aspects of this art and pursued to challenge himself not only with the ITF style, but also the WTF thereby joining the Chang Moo Kwan academy led by Grand Master Issam Obeid at Lakemba.

Being such a dedicated and passionate Martial Artist, Nasim was quickly recognized amongst his fellow members to be one of the top students training four days a week at the academies, excelling and soaring in his speed, form, technique and overall performance, … and was soon awarded “Best Fighter Award” by Master Kim for 1987-1988.

With such an outstanding record at the age of 16, young Nasim was nominated by Grand Master Issam Obeid to teach at the Lakemba academy for a short period until his return from holidays. Naseem enjoyed every bit of this opportunity, and with the assistance of a fellow student of high Martial Arts caliber as well, now Master Mahmoud Obeid, they successfully ran the class.

In May 1992, Nasim was graded to 2nd Dan Black Belt by Grand Master Issam Obeid, making him the youngest 2nd Dan in the academy…at only 17!

In 1995, Nasim competed in his ever first tournament event and deciding on starting his own academy called the Black Tiger Taekwondo alongside Chang Moo Kwan.

Black Tiger was originally founded by Grand master Issam, and with Nasim having proven himself over the years are an elite martial artist, he was presented with the opportunity to take over Black Tiger…an opportunity he embraced with his heart!

“1995 was the best year of my life as it was the birth of the very 1st academy to offer the best of Taekwondo training, combining ITF and WTF training techniques” – Master Nasim. Since then, he cross-trained in Karate and Kung Fu for four years achieving a Black Belt in Karate and promoting to 5th Dan Black Belt in Taekwondo.

With his mastery of these different Martial Arts, Black Tiger Academy now has so much to offer in self-defense, fighting, form, and highly effective techniques combing the best out of each style .. not to mention Olympic Tournament Fighting tactics and drills!

With over 270 members across the three Black Tiger Academies (YMCA Greenacre, Alfred’s Point Community Centre, and YMCA Arncliff), Nasim has affiliated himself and built a very good reputation for himself and his academy with the YMCA, as his vision aligned with theirs… building stronger people, stronger families and stronger communities!

Moreover, the YMCA’s only hire out their halls to Highly Certified and Accredited Instructors / Coaches to teach at their facilities…this is an indicator of Nasim’s reputed standards and qualifications as well as those of his Instructors which each had to undergo a number of courses as well as an accreditation from the Australian Coaching Council!

With the great success Nasim has accomplished throughout his training, opening and running his three academies, and building member numbers significantly over the years, Black Tiger Taekwondo is proud to announce that they have officially openned a Full Time, fully equipped Martial Arts Centre in Bankstown!
